Symbolic Archetpes

I am here to talk about 5 more archetypes, although these aren’t ordinary Archetypes, these are Symbolic Archetypes. I am going to talk about these five: Light/ Darkness, Haven vs. Wilderness, Water/ desert, Magical Weapon, and last but not least, Supernatural Intervention.  The first is Light and darkness- hope and ignorance; renewal and despair. This appears in a lot of movies, and it’s really good because it can cause suspense. An example would be, Spider-Man 3. Where he is regular at first then starts to change and has a double personality for a while. Water and Desert- Life/ and death, Haven vs. Wilderness- safety and danger. This appears in many movies also, a few examples would be: Spider-man, Alice in Wonderland, and Kick-A. They all have to watch for the safety of others, and their self’s, but it is really dangerous. Sometimes they’d rather risk their own life for someone else’s. Water and desert also appear in many movies. These are the main 2 that come out in 99% of the movies. They are always movies that either has someone being killed, passed, or else they are being born. Life and death appears in a lot of animated or comic movies. Here is a small amount of examples: Spider-man (Harry’ dad dies.) Harry Potter, (He’s parents are killed), A walk to remember (Mary Dies, P.s. check it out really good movie). Magical Weapon- only the hero must use it fully or at all. A good example would be King Arthur, Spider-Man, and beastly. If these powers aren’t used for good, they are taken away, until they can learn how to be used correctly or they have learned their lesson. Last would be supernatural intervention- gods intervening either for or against. This doesn’t appear in a lot of movies, but a good example would be Pierce Jackson: the Lightning thief.

More:O

I have five more archetypes to talk about. I will list each and every single and explain how they all fit into a modern film, classical film, and how they also relate to their titles.  The first Archetype I would like to talk about would be “The Youth from the Country”.  This is where a hero leaves their home and is raised by strangers so they can better their life. Then return home after the have completed their task. An example would be King Arthur, or Lancelot, or so on. A second one would be know as “Joker/Trickster/Holy fool.”  This figure whose “inspired insanity” may lead to great illumination, often through mischance or misdirection.  This appears in many movies, such as: Batman 1 2, Spiderman, Superman, the Terminator, Legion, and last but not least Harry Potter (1 2 3 4 5 6). Third would be the “Fairy Godmother” which is a female version of the mentor. This also appears in a lot of movies, mainly in fairy tales, tall tales, folks, and make fictional stories. The following are examples of this archetype: Shrek (1 2 3), Cinderella, Snow white, sweet 16, and some others that I can not list at this moment. The fourth archetype would be “The Friendly Beast”- this doesn’t occur in many movies but it comes out. Some examples would be: Beauty and the beast, where the wild things are, and Up. Last but not least the fifth Archetype, known as “The Initiate”- Heroes and heroines who undergo training before their quest. I only really know of two movies that have this, and those would be.” Sky high and Peirce Jackson” This are mostly students at a school and find out they have powers, the are sent off to a different school meant for them. They understand the meaning and are off for their mission.

-Archetypes:D

There are four different types of Archetypes. They are listed as the following: The Ritual, The Journey, Damsel in Distress, and The Hero. I will write about the following and try to explain each one and how they are involved in a modern film. Archetype- the Ritual is in the movie “Aladdin”. The genie at first is a regular guy, and gets punished do to something then gets stuck in a small flask or so and has to grant 3 wishes to whoever rubs it. He is forced to wait for a long, long, long time until the flask is found. Next is The Journey- a classical example would probably “The Odyssey”, or “Hercules”.  They are sent off for a mission, a quest, something that can help them in their life. They have battle off and go throw a lot just to try and find their way back home. Another archetype is  “Damsel in Distress” this is a character, and this appears to be in a lot of movies. Mostly in action films, Animated, Adventurous, and Romance movies. A quiet a few examples would probably be these examples.  In the Classical section- “western movies, Robin Hood, Cinderella, Snow white, Aladdin, Hercules, and The little Mermaid”. In the Modern section-“Spider-man, Super-man, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Nights and Days, Bat Man,  Harry Potter and all the series, Twilight”, and last but not least “Tangled.” The Last and the final Archetype would be The Hero, and this being said many of you can already point out which this category fits in, The hero is in all sorts of movie and you may not even notice it. The following examples may have more than 1 hero or just one hero. : Spider-Man, Despicable Me, Bat Man, Iron Man, Hulk, World Trade Center-9/11, flight 93, Power Rangers, Sponge-Bob Square pants, and ect. Thank you for reading, and I will post more soon.

This image may be subject to copyright
My experience with research is going to be placed on this blog. I will post only things i find intresting and amusing. If nothing intreset me then I will not place it on this blog. I like to be unique and know more or something newer or intresting than anybody else. The more you know, you will find to be useful in the future. When I find something instresting, I can talk about for awhile. If I have to talk  about or do something that I really don’t like or am not into then I will bore you easily, cause I’m going on and on and not even sure what im talking about. So I hope you enjoy this post, and will like my blogs later in the future.  -Nicky
